Hi, I’m Steve Koivisto

Serving musicians isn’t just a business, it’s my passion. As a performing multi-instrumentalist, I understand first-hand the importance of having a properly maintained highly functioning instrument. My repair journey began as an apprentice at King Band Instrument Repair Service in Decatur Georgia, and that journey led me to roles as shop creator and manager at places like Mississippi Music in Mississippi, Musician’s Supply, and Music & Arts in South Carolina, and Sweetwater Sound in Indiana. I owned and operated Palmetto Repair in South Carolina for 15 years before accepting a position as the Instrument Technician for Louisiana State University where I served the School of Music and the Golden Band from Tigerland. Most recently I served as the Director of Service Operations for Lafayette Music. I have a degree in Clarinet Performance from Georgia Southern University, and a MM in Clarinet Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi where I was the teaching assistant. Additionally, I have obtained professional certifications such as Straubinger Certification and recognition from the Vermont Flute making Guild. I have given many clinics and lectures for Universities, School Systems and Band Directors along with regional and national clinics for the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians. I have had the privilege and honor to have performed with dozens of professional orchestras, operas, touring Broadway shows and other performing artists. Louisiana has a very unique and special musical heritage and culture, and I relish the opportunity do my part to not only nurture and preserve that culture, but also to keep it alive and vibrant for the future.
